Family ReunificationVisa Requirements
If you are not from the EU and are a family member of a Spanish citizen or another EU country, you can apply for a residence and work permit. You must apply for the permit if you plan to reside in Spain for more than three months and that permit is valid for five years.
Residence for parents and direct relatives
For parents and direct relatives to be able to request the permit, it is necessary to accredit well the dependence. Also, the EU Citizens should show that they have enough economic means to sustain their relatives in Spain.
Residence for spouse
The spouse of the EU family member can apply for this permit. Domestic partners are also included as long as they are accredited with a public certificate or sufficient evidence that proves a stable relationship.
Residence for children
Children younger than 21 years of age who are not EU citizens are eligible for a residence card as long as their parents can show sufficient economic means to support them.
In each case, the EU citizen must be able to show sufficient economic means to support the non-EU citizen’s application for the permit. They must also have healthcare coverage, whether it’s through the public system because of the employment contract, the self-employment registration of the EU Citizen, or private health insurance.
