Spanish Tax Season

Tax season has arrived and from now on Spanish people has to prepare themselves to get all the documentation ready. Since not everyone has been working or living in Spain, it is possible that a lot of people have doubts about how to do this.

For example, many expats in Spain are not 100% sure if they must file in a Personal Income Tax Return. We know it’s tough work if you’ve never done it or if you just prefer someone else to do it for you cause you’re not sure on how to do it.

So, how do you know if you have to do your Taxes in Spain?

Well, if you are living and working in Spain, you are liable to pay taxes in Spain on your income and assets, and you may need to file a Spanish Tax Return. In case you were more than 183 days in Spain in 2018, you will have to pay taxes on your worldwide income.

You will need to submit a Personal Income Tax Return if:

  • Your annual income from employment is more than 22.000 Euros or 12.643 Euros if you have had more than one employer.
  • You are self-employed or run your own business.
  • You have received rental income of more than 1.000 Euros this year.
  • You have had capital gains and savings income over 1.600 Euros this year.

There’s no need to hurry, but as soon as you do it, the better. The deadline for filing in the Personal Income Tax Return is July 1st, 2019.
